So here is the scenario – you need to find a couple pictures for your son’s 8th grade graduation slideshow and he tells you this at say 7:30 am – he leaves for school in 30 minutes. This is a very real situation in our house.
In the perfect scenario you sip your coffee, go to the computer, do a couple searches and send the perfect photos to the printer and off to school he goes. In my house I panic and yell, there go about 10 minutes. Now I am at the computer and I am searching in the dozen folders named “photos” with numbers after them to easily identify their unique contents. I start to yell again, then a stroke of brilliance, I will do a computer search for what??? A DSC12584.jpg – really – this is insane. I finally resort to a cute photo of a boy and a well put together family, buy the stock image, and send him off to school. He is 14 he will neither care or notice.
But for me it was a wake up call. I needed to have some sort of system of locating photos. I am an avid photo taker, and 85% of moms are the family archivists, so the solution needed to be close by. A search on the web brought me to the Association of Personal Photo Organizers. I was surprised to find a support group – and this is exactly what I thought of it – they were just like me, but had created a solution to the problem and turned it into a business. This is my journey as a photo organizer, training specialist and coach.
